BookKad (“BookKad”, “we”, “us” or “our”) is an editorial website dedicated to book notes, summaries, ideas, reading discovery and related content. This Privacy Policy explains what information may be collected when you use bookkad.com, how it may be used, and the choices available to you.

Information you provide

We may receive information that you voluntarily provide, such as your name, email address, messages, book requests, newsletter details, forum submissions or other information you send through forms or interactive features on the site.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, BookKad and its service providers may automatically receive limited technical information such as browser type, device type, approximate location derived from an IP address, referring pages, pages visited, and interaction or performance data. Cookies and similar technologies may be used for essential site functions, security, analytics, preferences and performance.

How information may be used

• To operate, maintain, secure and improve BookKad.
• To respond to enquiries, feedback and book requests.
• To provide newsletters or updates where you have chosen to receive them.
• To understand site usage and improve content, navigation and performance.
• To prevent spam, abuse, fraud or security incidents.
• To comply with applicable legal obligations.

Book requests and availability notifications

When you use Request a Book, BookKad may store the requested book title and author, optional ISBN or edition information, an optional note, your email address, your BookKad user ID if you are signed in, the request status, and limited hashed technical data used for abuse prevention. The tracker is used to prevent duplicate requests, measure demand, match requests to Book Notes that later become available, and display request history to signed-in members.

If you choose “Email me if this book becomes available,” BookKad may send a transactional service email when the matching Book Note is published. This request notification is separate from newsletter or marketing consent. Request records may be retained while a request is pending and for a reasonable period after fulfilment for operational, audit, duplicate-prevention and support purposes.

Email delivery and preferences

BookKad uses an external email-delivery provider to send transactional and member emails reliably. At present, site email is routed through Brevo using BookKad’s authenticated sending domain. Delivery logs may retain limited message-routing information for a short operational period so failed or delayed email can be diagnosed. Optional weekly reading recap emails are controlled from My BookKad and are off by default unless a member enables them.

Bot and abuse protection

BookKad uses Google reCAPTCHA on selected public forms, including account access and book-request entry points, to distinguish legitimate use from automated abuse. reCAPTCHA may process device, browser, network and interaction signals for security purposes. Use of reCAPTCHA is also subject to Google’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

Third-party services and external links

BookKad may use third-party hosting, analytics, security, email, anti-spam, embedded-media or other technology providers. Those providers may process limited information according to their own terms and privacy practices. Our articles may also link to external websites. BookKad does not control the privacy practices of external sites, and you should review their policies separately.

Cookies

Cookies may be used where necessary for site functionality and may also be used by enabled analytics, embedded content or other services. Your browser may allow you to block or delete cookies, although doing so can affect some site features.

Data retention and security

We aim to retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, legitimate operational needs, or applicable legal requirements. We use reasonable safeguards appropriate to a publishing website, but no internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Your choices and requests

Subject to applicable law, you may contact us to ask about personal information you have provided to BookKad, request correction or deletion where appropriate, or withdraw a consent you previously gave. Newsletter messages should also provide an unsubscribe method where applicable.

BookKad accounts and community features

If you create a BookKad account, we may store information needed to provide member features, including your profile, follows, library and reading-status activity, favourites, Reading DNA, custom Bookshelves, Daily Book Spark responses, questions, replies, poll participation, achievements, Reading XP, challenges and notifications.

BookKad is designed with member-controlled visibility. Profile visibility, Reading DNA, favourite books and eligible community activity can be controlled through the privacy settings in My BookKad. Saved or Read Later items and Bookshelves marked private are not intended to be published to other members. Information you explicitly make public may appear in your profile, BookKad Pulse, discovery or compatibility features.

Reading compatibility is calculated from reading-related information rather than demographic characteristics. Signals from another member are used only where the relevant information has been made available under that member’s privacy choices. Community submissions such as public questions, replies, polls and shared Book Spark responses may be visible to other visitors or members as indicated by the feature.

We may retain limited activity records and timestamps needed to operate features such as weekly quests, activity feeds, achievements, moderation, abuse prevention and notifications. These records are used to provide and protect BookKad’s community functions.

Children

BookKad is a general-audience publishing website and is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law. If you believe a child has provided personal information inappropriately, please contact us.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the site, its services or applicable requirements evolve. The latest version will be posted on this page with an updated date.
